ANY 327 is a decent motor….you should be pulling 13.00 quarter mile times

    i was getting 18.00 with my chevy 305 !!!

you need a complete package to get decent times…a good motor…a good tranny…and a good rear end

it may have a mileage axle in it, you need some 3.73 gears, I ran 17.34 in a Mustang six with 3.20’s..

Another thing you should consider is the carb on the motor, and the weight of the car it is in.

Power to weight ratio is the key to speed.

I recently acquired one of these engines myself. It’s a “69″ large journal 327/350hp. Depending on the cam and head combinations, these mice ranged from 225-375hp from the factory. They work best in the mid to upper rpm range, so a stall converter with a lower rear end gear makes them screamers. A friend of mine used to have one in a Comaro, it was constantly twisted to 8 grand. Mine is going in my “77″ El Camino. There used to be a “76″ El Camino that ran a 327/365hp Corvette engine at our local strips, it was a sub 14 sec. daily driver. That’s quick for a 4000lb truck. If you have a large journal crank 327, it’s most definitely a good horsepower maker.
