Only $1000 for insurance at your age on such a car? That’s a good one!

It’s gorgeous! I would do it. My first car was a ‘74 Charger 440. Wish I still had it.

Seriously, a bad idea. Buy a junker because you’ll more than likely get in a wreck in the first couple years of driving, so don’t drive a car you LOVE until you have a couple years under your belt.

Plus, $1000 will definitely not pay your insurance and gas.

Bad idea. Never ending list of repairs.

Good luck with that. My first car was a charger with a 383 double 4 bbl. It DRANK gas….. The problem is, you get a fast car and you want to drive fast. That makes you a target, as police will notice a young guy in a hot rod. (That gets expensive) The other problem, is parts and service for a car like that will drain your pockets fast.
From a guy who made a few mistakes: Get something more practical, and save your money for having a little fun.

if u can drive it in the winter…then go ahead….

Yea, sorry but that $1000 is only gona get you about two months of insurance. That’s a good car to buy though. What about buying the car, parking it then getting a beater? Your only 17 and you saved $7000! That’s awesome! What about waiting a couple of years, you will have at least another 7 grand and restore it to it’s original condition. By the looks of the pic, it won’t take much money. Have you checked to see if the t-top leaks or anything? I say buy the car, use the extra $1000 to buy a beater and when your friends tease you about your beater, take them to your garage or driveway and show them your vet you have!

Get a crappy car for your first car. That way if you write it off do to inexpereince, it doesn’t matter.

Also, as everyone is saying, $1k for a young person in a hot car for insurance is a bit airy-fairy

If you can get a Corvette for less than $6000 then it’s probably in really bad condition. If you find maintenance on your car fun, then go for it.

In some ways it sounds like a good idea. It is not likely to go down in value, and insurance probably will not be all that bad on it. I am not certain most companies will want to do full coverage on a 30+ yr old vehicle, and I am reasonably certain you would not be eligible for most classic car insurance due to your age and how the vehicle will be used.
So insurance could be an issue.

Another issue is the fact that these cars were extremely poorly built. This thing will be nothing but a money pit that will sit in your driveway and rot and leak fluids. The fiberglass body is prone to rot in some areas, and is hard to work on. Good luck on the mechanicals as well.

I like the idea of a classic car, but maybe set your sights a little lower and on something a bit more modern and newer. Maybe a 90’s 300ZX (sorry, a non-turbo would be better).

That is a cool car and would be very cool for a 1st car.

Ok now time to be reasonable, your probably gonna beat it up, no offense but older cars dont have the brakes and suspension that modern ones do, it will need alot of work, it will go through gas like you wont believe, insurance will be alot more than $1,000. Its not a reasonable car at all and it will csot you a ton of money in the long run.
    But its your decision.
