  • I know, I know!!!!:

if you take it off there will be holes in the deck lid where it was mounted. i used to have 2 vettes.
the one in the pic looks really sharp.

It should unbolt from inside the trunk. but if you remove it it is gonna have holes in it and if thats the actual car in the picture don’t remove it that car is beautiful and when you start messing with stuff like that you kill value!

    I believe it’s screwed down :)

well yes it comes off, cause they had to have a way to put it on ,but some years will leave holes in the deck lid

  • mister ss:

It will come off, it’s bolted on, and yes, you will notice the holes.

  • niceguy:

you can plug the holes and re paint

i own a repair shop, and its going to leave some noticeable holes in it,,if you remove it,i have removed a few of those before during some restorations, and they do leave a hole,,you can patch them over though, once you do this, you cant go back with it,,we did a custom one,and removed them they do look better without them ,good luck with it,hope this help,s.,,have a good x-mas.

Under the rear is where it is bolted on The nuts holding it on are under the rear deck so to remove it simply (ha ha) lay on your back with either the driver seat or passenger seat unbolted and remove the nuts .

The luggage rack was a dealer installed option. The one in the pic looks original. No sense in removing it unless you are repainting the entire car.

The luggage rack is very useful on trips. I’ve had 3 roadsters. All had luggage racks.

It is removable but is a real pain to do so. Holes will be left in the upper body — have seen some customers use chrome carriage bolts and washers with rubber washers underneath used to ‘plug’ the holes left behind. Not a terrible option, though nothing will take the place of fiberglass filling and repainting. Later model Vettes were optioned with removable luggage racks that left the chrome mounting divots in the rear deck.
